Congratulations Doctor Doyle

Dr Kevin Doyle, AVA National Veterinary Director, has been honoured by the University of Sydney with the degree of Doctor of Veterinary Science (honoris causa).

Kevin Doyle has distinguished himself through his outstanding contributions to veterinary practice, and significant creative achievement.

Dr Doyle is highly respected within his profession, and by government bodies and industry organisations, for his dedicated service to ensuring the national health status of the animal populations of Australia. His contributions to veterinary practice have influenced the thinking and general well-being of the wider community.

Dr Doyle graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science degree from the University of Sydney in 1963. He has made impressive contributions to national leadership in animal disease prevention in roles such as Australian Deputy Chief Veterinary Officer, Assistant Director General of Health for Animal Quarantine and Veterinary Attaché at the Australian Embassy Washington.

He has been instrumental in the development of a large number of policies and protocols for the quarantine and export of animals and animal products. In particular, he has contributed significantly to animal health in our region through involvement in development assistance projects for AusAID, through undertaking consultancies throughout Asia, and by providing advice to many colleagues overseas.

Dr Doyle is currently the National Veterinary Director of the Australian Veterinary Association, a position he has held since 1997. He continues to use his experience and expertise in disease control in the national interest through serving on a range of expert groups.

He has been a keen supporter of the University of Sydney’s Faculty of Veterinary Science through his consistent support of its endeavours, in particular its Veterinary Public Health Management Program. He is passionate about the future of the veterinary profession in Australia and has been instrumental in shaping the next generation of veterinarians entering the public health field.

Kevin Doyle is an outstanding alumnus of the university whose contributions to veterinary practice have influenced the thinking and general well-being of the animal industries both here and overseas.
